IMO there is nothing wrong with it but I am a liberal athiest so I dont exactly have an unbiased opinion. If you want to know more read some of the previous post about this issue. They're part of the process of developing fish that can change colors ba -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

GROSS! WHO NIPPED THAT DANIO HALF TO DEATH!. In fact I almost threw up the first time I saw them, even though I knew what they were. They just look diseased to me. The first time I saw them the "glow" part was splotchy and uneven. Even after I saw later shipments that the color was more even they still look abnormal to my eyes. I'd take normal fish over glodanios anyday. ^_^ |

They even had pictures of how they injected the flourescent gene into fish eggs and the subsequent development steps the fish goes through. IMO they look cheesy and quite ugly. -P |

At least these fish aren't being dyed after they are born like some are, but i think they look very un-natural, and i would personally prefer a tank that is as natural and close to a real ecosystem as possible. Don't think that can be achieved with a manufactured, glow in the dark fish |

viciouschiapet Fish Addict Posts: 651 Kudos: 77 Votes: 15 Registered: 25-Jan-2003 | Ok I admit i've been out of fishkeeping for years, so when I started going to pet stores again I saw the Glofish for the first time. I was really confused! I didn't think they were actually ugly. I just thought it was horrible that people were still dying fish and felt sorry for them. I looked them up though, and i'm surprised that they're just made that way. I don't think they're necessarily wrong, but I don't have problems with changing genetics. I just think it's sad when fish are hurt to look different. I saw white balloon mollies at my LFS that were "tattood." One had a heart on its side and one was spotted like a dalmation, but obviously fake and not a true dalmation molly. The sad thing is, I was with someone that didn't know much about fish and she loved the heart one. She thought it was just natural because she knew mickey mouse platys were natural. I wonder if other people make that same assumption often? The pottery that growls! |
