Okay I'm looking for a surface fish for the 30 we have in the office. It's lightly planted with Java fern (alot) a few crypts I'm waiting to see how they do, and some rotala. Sand substrate and alot of filtration (AC 500 and a powerhead as a quick filter)

Current stock

1 Very stuck up zebra danio (no preaching please this one bullied 3 others to their deaths)

3 Gold barbs with 4 more to be added soon

4 Diamond Tetras

4 Albino corys.

I dont like tetras much but the diamonds are nice, problem is I cant find them in any of the stores around here :%). Most of the stock is low middle to bottom of the tank. I'm looking for something small and surface dwelling and was wondering about the harlies.

Question is, are they compatible with the others, how will they deal with alot of current, and exactly how hardy are they?

^_^

I'm not sure I would add rasboras as Gold Barbs get alot bigger them them and may start hassling them. On the other hand they may get along fine. But I would err on the side of caution and not add them. I remember getting silver tip tetras after doing alot of research and they terrorized my rummy noses, rasboras, and danios. I had to return them to a LFS, the only time I've ever brouhgt fish back.

I agree. Rasboras like to just hang out and wouldn't appreciate a dizzying danio and barbs wanting to "play". Harlies are good for a laid back tank.

Hmmm.... not sure what goes with those barbs and danio.

How about some Rummynose Tetras instead? They're peaceful, heavily schooling, all levels, and even though you don't really like tetras, they're pretty sweet looking when they move as a group...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I don't think they'd mind the current. The filter current in my tank is pretty strong, but they dont seem to mind. Actually, when I refill my tank with the python they always wind up swimming right into the current, then once they get past it, turn around and swim into it again. It's kinda neat.

Not too sure about tankmates. Mine are in a pretty big school, so they don't seem to mind the rowdy yo-yos. The biggest problem, as someone has already said, may be your psychotic danio. Yo-yos can be fairly aggressive, but when in groups they stick to themselves, occasionally taking a swim upwards into the harley school. Your danio is all by his lonesome, and that usually spells trouble with energetic schooling fish.

How about some white clouds? My white clouds (11) school with my leopard danios (5) and even play tag! Great top fish Babel, you could never go wrong with clouds!

I'd try the harlequins. In my experience they're fast enough to swim away from any 'chasers'. Just get them in a healthy enough group so that they can shoal together.

Of course, they'd appreciate the planted tank.

One of my favourites
