I found a rather large minnow (2.5") today in a shipment of Florida-bred feeder goldfish, and I need an identification. I'm really not familiar with Floridan Cyprinids at all. I think that it might be Hybognathus hayi, but there's about 20 other species that look very similar.

I only got one decent picture of it, but it's pretty accurate.



Any ideas?

It does not have the signature rounded nose of most minnows. I'm willing to bet a good amount of money that it's a shiner of some sort; Notemigonus crysoleucas, perhaps.

Yeah, that looks more like it.

I don't have room for an 8" Cyprinid.
