Hello,
I have recently aquired 2 odessa barbs from a friend who has got rid of their tank. He said they are male and female.

I was told that they are peaceful fish, however, they seem to be chasing each other all the time. Neither seem to be injured or have any torn fins, but I am concerned because one of them tends to hide behing my large java fern and I seldom see it. Any suggestions?

They are nice fish, BTW. Two bright red strips down each side. Lovely.

Maybe the male is stressing the female cuz he wants to breed

I agree, barbs are typically schooling fish and he would chase her less if he had a harem. Try adding another male and 3 more females if you can, that way you will have a school of 6---4 females and 2 males, or just 4 more females for 5/1....that ought to keep him entertained.

They are very nice fish- most of the LFS in my area never have them. I have kept other barbs , but not them. Most of the baqrbs are like that if not kept in a large enough group. I notice when I did see them- they were pricey for a barb- even the Black Ruby is more than double the price I bought them at- Import shortage??
