New to cherry barbs | |
Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I had an empty 10 gallon that had been cycleing for four weeks (used Cycle and a used filter from another tank). Everything seems to be fine. I had five platy fry that I put in the tank for about a week ago. Over the weekend, I went to the LFS and got a blue dwarf gourami (missed the one I had that got killed in the artificial shell accident) and three cherry barbs - one male and two females. Is this set up OK. Everyone is doing well for the time being, or will the tank be overstocked when the platies get bigger. I had never had cherry barbs before. Will they harrass the other fish? - Seem be be getting along with everyone right now. |

I have two males in a 15, and one is already HUGE. This also means he is bullying the other fish. Cherry Barbs MAY be nippy with the Gourami, however they are supposed to be quite peaceful. The barbs would also prefur a planted tank, as they need lots of hiding places. I think if you got rid of the platies, you could possibly add a few ottos, when there was enough algea. |

The platies are only about a half inch long and I noticed tonight that three of them already look like they are pregnant - is that possible in such young fish? I think I will see if the fish store will take them. I have some fry in another ten gallon, that need to go also. I have a large artificial plant and a castle, but want to add live plants when I have the chance - I prefer them and have live plants in the other two tanks. Would this work? I have three glowlight tetras, two head and tail light tetras and four platy fry, live plants in the other ten gallon. What if I move the gourmai (in the event the barbs get nippy) to the other tank and up the glowlights to five; put the two head and tail lights in with the cherry barbs, and sent all the platy fry to the fish store, or put something else in with the cherry barbs? Actually, I think a single species tank with a single show case fish looks better than a tank of mixed up fish species. I also, have a twenty nine gallon with seven annoying danios (different colors), four adult platies and six cories - planted. The fish in the 29 gallon do however seem to get along. |

Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I took the platies to the fish store yesterday. I was not sure they would want them, but they were happy to get the "free" babies. I must pay this place another visit in the future - gorgous crown (double rays) tail bettas! The goruami and cherry barbs are much happier. I may add a bottom feeded (if it is small) later on. Thanks. |
