Is this normal? Is it something to do with maturity or breeding or something? I am fairly sure that it is not fungus, it hasn't grown lately, and none of the other fish have anything like that anywhere on their bodies! x |

I thinks it looks that way because they have the bottom lip bit protruding to easily catch insects on the surface. |

I used to have pearl danois that did this. ANd i have black skirts that are full grown that have black stuff on the mouth?? i think its an age thing. |

He has the biggest tendency to get these red and white lips and he is the most aggressive. None of my females gets either. I've been trying to study their bottom lip (not too easy given their usual activity speed!) and the two largest look as if they have been dipped in flour. I was rather concerned but as no-one else in the tank is showing anything remotely similar i have breathed a sigh of relief!! I did make a guess that they were a male and a female due to body shape and markings (one was leaner and had red markings on some fins, with the other being more rounded with not as striking fin markings) but maybe it is just a male thing. Either way I am relieved that it isn't out of the ordinary ![]() x |
