I have a huge Ramshorn snail population explosion in my tiger barb/RTBS tank (29 gal)and was wondering if a couple dwarf puffers would work? I've read that they would be okay and also it would be bad. I do have alternate housing for the puffers (if I get them and it doesn't work) If the puffers won't work, what would?? I really want some kind of fish to take care of them because I don't like to add anything to the water unless I have to.

Some loaches eat snails i think, such as clown loaches, but they also get quite big.

Dwarf puffers are very, very nippy...the only fish I've successfully kept with them are otos and bumblebee gobies.

Clown loaches will eat them but they definitely get big. Other loaches too...botia sidthimunki, which are quite small. Botia dario, kind of a mid-size. Some people say kuhlis will eat them but I don't know if that's 'normal' or just individuals. Yo-yos and zippers...you might want to check out [link=Loaches Online]http://www.loaches.com [/link].

Just remember loaches like friends, usually at least a group of 3 is necessary. I really like them as bottom feeders, even more than cories.

Dwarf puffers will take a long time to make a dent on your snail population. They can only eat the tiny snails, so the large ones will continue to breed. With a RTBS it's gonna be hard to add a loach without it being pestered all the time. You may have to move the RTBS then add your loaches. Two weeks or so later you could return the RTBS back to it's orginal tank.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm planning on getting a larger tank and moving the RTBS anyway so then I can get the zippers.

Ive kept yoyos with RTBS and they were fine together, though i had to move the shark because it bullied my neons, now it is happily playing rough tag with my firemouths!
