I have one rosy barb in my tank w 5 guppies people in other places like general freshwater have been telling me its not healthy for the barb but it is healthy and i have had it for quite soem time out of all my fish its probably lasted the longest. is this true and if so would anyone like it also how big do they get becasue i have ben hearing and seeing in books all different sizes from 3-4 ins all the way to 6 and that my 20 gal tank is stunting its growth!

They should normally be kept in pairs, so I'd recommend getting one more. They get to about 4-5" long, so you should be okay...

...and no, I don't want them...

Well, first, this discussion should be over in "Cyprinid Corner". But no, if you don't get any more of them, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Rosy Barbs grow very slowly -- and they're tough little guys. They also don't seem to have much of a penchant for eating smaller fish, such as your Guppies.

IMO rosy barbs do not belong in a 20 gallon tank. Like most of their kind they're vey active fish, and need the space to swim. Since they are barbs, they also need a school. While I've found that they aren't as stressed as say tetras get when by themselves, they do alot better with 3-6 of their own kind as a minimum. The ones I have grew rather fast, and will eat just about anything they can.
