Hello -

I was in the LFS yesterday and I saw a fish that I had never seen before. It was labeled a Rubysomething Shark. I knew I should have written it down... :%) They had silver bodies with a red stripe from the head almost to the tail and bright yellow tips on their tails - maybe all of their fins? I checked a few sites, but I can't find a pic of them. Does anyone know what this was from my pitiful description? Any info on them?

I know the fish you're talking about. It's not a shark at all, but rather, a barb. I saw it at my LFS as a roseline shark, but they're also called by several other names.

Did a google (on roseline shark) and this is the first site that came up... this the fish you're talking about? Puntius Denisonii

Absolutely stunning fish... I so wish I had a tank for them!

Here... I went back and grabbed a picture from that site for quick reference:

That's it - I went back to the LFS and it was listed as a Roseline Shark - don't know where I got Ruby - duh. Has anyone here kept them? I was able to find a little info on them and it says that they haven't been available in the hobby for very long. Found a lot of pics but not much care info. The guy at the LFS said they get about 4" and are a peaceful community fish, but I rarely trust what I hear from them. Any info would be appreciated - they're so beautiful, I want some!!!

Did you notice how much the lfs was asking? These fish are usually pretty pricey, especially since they should be kept in groups. I agree that they are stunning. My lfs had a group in their show tank for a while. They were very active and always together.

I think they were about $25 - definitely a little more than most of the fish in my tank but I think they'd be worth it. I'm just kicking myself b/c the LFS was having a 40% off sale on all fish - it ended Sunday. Guess I might have to wait.
