Alright, as some of you might know I'm a happy owner of several Glo Fish, (aka those pink zebra danios).

Now, I have some nice examples of them, which I'm sure some of you have seen. However, last night at my "local" fish store, they finally had a shipment of them in. And THESE fish looked SOO bright, under normal light, I thought for sure that they had to of been injected or dyed, and perhaps some other "new" type of danio.
But the guy assured me they were THE glofish.
You couldn't see the dark horizontal stripes like you can on mine, they were very light/whitish (think of a gold danio). But man, these things were REALLY glowing, a nice red, and some were more florescent pink! It was truely amazing.
They weren't for sale yet, and I don't know how much they are going to charge for them yet. But if I can I might pick up a couple.

Crossed with gold danios perhaps? Since the "Glo" is dominant, they can be crossed with anything - long fins for long-finned GloFish, leopards for leopard GloFish, etc.

Could they do an albino-esque glowfish?

[font color="#000080"]There was something about glow fish on my end of year biology exam.
From my recall, i think they are called rice fish.
They are transgenic (contain genes from other organisms) of coral genes.
Not sure about the danios.
Lots of them are either dyed or dipped in some form of acid.

I still haven't found out anything more about them. But I'm hoping to go back to that store soon and see whats what. I am skeptical still. As these Danio's (some long finned, so they have obviously been crossed with something and NOT the orginial Glofish), they look like painted glass fish, that bright vibrant color you see, only all over their body, there is just so much of a difference between these fish and mine.

Ricefish are used as a "glow fish" (if I remember correctly) but the only ones sold as a Glowfish are the danios. They are the only ones legally saleable in the US (minus CA last I heard). For more information about them, go to http://www.glofish.com

These guys are not involved in any dying or acid dip. They are bred this way, and by this point in "production" for many generations.
