Good tank mates for Black Ruby and Tiger Barbs? I was kind of thinking a Raphael Catfish. I was also thinking a pictus catfish?? I am only doing them right now in a 20 gal. This summer I will be switching them to a 40 long that I just got but don't have the room for.

Thanks!!!

In a twenty gallon, if you 6 or more Tiger Barbs, and you should, plus Black Rubys; then you really can't get anything else. Maybe a few Corys.

My curent tank list is:

2 reg. tiger barbs
2 albino tiger barbs
2 black ruby barbs
2 checkered barbs
and
1 small Clown pleco.

I would like to get some nice green tigers but most of the ones in my LFS's just don't look that great. I did have two that were almost black but I lost them to ick shortly after getting them. =(

Pictus are big, active and schooling, minimim tank size is a 55 gallon with few or no other bottom feeders.
While they're great fish they need more room than most due simply to their activity level. Additionally are not good with small fishe as they will be able to catch and make lunch out of anything they can fit in their mouths....which are surprisingly large.

So I have my tank list of fish above. When I got up this morning and looked at my tank I saw that my largest Tiger Barb looks as though she has internal bleeding around her butt and just behind the dorsal fin on her back. Right now she seems to be pretty mello and keeps chasing away any of the other fish that comes near her. Other then the blood spots she seems to be ok, all her fins are looking great in all. I have heard that barbs can be nippy but I didn't know they would take a club to another fish in the night!
