just set up a new 38 gallon tank and after running tests on my water found out its got a ph of 7-8 (hopefully low 7's once i set up my peat) and hardness of 16 (possibly a bit lower)

would tiger barbs be ok?

if not , what would?

cheers.

Tiger barbs will do just fine in the pH and dH you mention. You have room to spare in case conditions don't work out as they should.]:| Good luck with the tigers!

You could probably fit around 45 tigers in your tank! ...but it might not be a good idea. As to an algae eater, you should put in a school of 5-6 otocinclus. They are small, but have big appetites. You won't have any algae problems with them.

is it best to intruduce them at the same time or in groups?

will ottos be ok with my water?

Introduce them in groups, to allow the tank to cycle and get used to all the fish. The ottos will do o.k. in your water, maybe soften it a bit. Ottos are delicate for the first month or so, be very careful with them, make sure you change the water weekly, etc.

You should test your tank for ammonia, nitrItes, and nitrAtes. When ammonia and nitrItes are zero, then you should add the fish. It can take up to 2 weeks, but usually doesn't.

Really it is up to you. I would just have a group of 10 or so, and put some other fish in.
