I had bought 6 tiger barbs and in a month they all died. The pH was about 7.4 and the other fish in there were rainbows, loaches, and some black tetras. They were all fine and the tiger barbs died off. Why did this happen? Can this be prevented?

What is your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? How big is the tank?

Did they have anything on them, cuts, cotton stuff, blood etc.?

Were they all bought at the same time from the same store?

Have you changed your water change routine or added a rock or changed anyting?

No everything was the same. I had other fish in the tank that lived and they had no cuts or scrapes on them. There was no problem with the water because I checked when the first died.

Well, with the information you've provided us with so far, there's not much we can determine. Is there anything else you can tell us about maybe the tank size, amount of fish in the tank, types of fish, the tigers' behavior, the size of the tiger school, etc. The more information you can provide for us of what the tank consists of and looks like and how the fish interact, the better we'll be at being able to help...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

The tank had 6 rainbows that would never bother the tiger barbs. The 3 black tetras were larger than them and they schooled together with no aggresion between them. The school had 6 small tiger barbs. The loaches were not aggressive toward them.

The tank they were in was a 29gal. It had an UGF with a powerhead.
