I know they get large and produce a lot of waste. Does anyone keep them? Also- how would I setup such a large tank? ie filtration etc- maybe one thats reef ready? It will be in the Recroom in the ba What would anyone recommend I can put with them, if possible? http://www.fishprofiles.com/site/aquarank.aspx |

If you do invest in a 360gal. tank you would need a supreme filtration system and a lot of water circulation. As for tank mates, your options are anything thats not too small because as the barbs grow they might eat little ones such as tetras. I personally keep three tinfoils that are 4-5 inches long with one albino tiger Oscar which is about 12-13 inches and three convict cichlids that range in size from 2-4 inches and one lace cat, they all live fine together with no problems. |

Enjoy these wonderfull fish and be sure to feed them plenty of veggies; they'll need it when they're fully grown. Usually, when you buy tinfoils in a pet shop, you get b. altus instead of b. schwanenfeldi. This has to do with the English popular name and the availability in the wild; b. altus is much more common than b. schwanenfeldi. Actually; b.S. is starting to get rare ... This very commonly made mistake has one advantage; b. altus doesn't get as big as b. schwanenfeldi. Tinfoils grow to 17-18"; red tailed tinfoils only grow to app. 10". |
