I have 10 gallon tank for my Betta and I was thinking of giving him a few tank mates. I heard that white clouds are easy to keep and can be in cooler temps and are not nippy like some tetras. Any idea how many I could get or what else I could put in with my betta.

I'd say you could keep 6-8 WCMM in a 10g with a betta The only problem is the minnows prefer flowing water, where bettas need a very weak current, if any at all. Turn your filter on as high as you can without traumatizing the betta. Hopefully that will satisfy everyone.

White clouds and bettas can get along. Usually it depends on the temperament of the betta though. I would get a school of 6 WCMMs if you go with them.

Another possibility is a couple of ADFs. Bettas and ADF's are *usually* compatible. I kept them together and know others who have as well.

One more possibilty is ghost shrimp. Again, this depends on the bettas personality. Worst that will happen is your betta gets a nice little feast.

Is the tank heated??

It maybe a stupid question but what is a ADF? As for the tank it is not heated. Stays about 73-75 degrees F. I have a good amount of plants that keep the current slow in half the tank. thanks for the replies.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

ADF stands for African Dwarf Frog. They are fully aquatic and typically easy to find.

Even though your tank is not heated, they should be okay with that temperature range. IMO they are very cute, and love live snacks. Pretty hardy too, as long as you can get them to eat.

I have shrimp and they are just so much fun! They go great in a planted tant also. I do have a heater, but if your temp stays put, I'd say give them a try. I have frogs in my 55 gallon tank and they don't do as much as the shrimp. I also have Apple snails and they are cool to. But if you are looking for something to put on a show, get the shrimp. As with any fish you will want to cover any jumping out of tank holes.

given proper cover, ghost shrimp can easily live with a betta. same for a dwarf frog. both specie are not truelly free swimming and are usually not bothered by most similar sized carnivore fish (given the proper cover). imo- ADULT white clouds are adaptable to alot of different aquarium conditions. i do not think any are wild caught, and all i have had adapted to every tank setup. white cloud fry are a different topic entirely.

I've never had luck keeping ghost shrimp with bettas, the shrimp always ended up being a snack.

I do have a female betta with an ADF and white clouds. ADFs pretty much mind their own business, at least those I've kept. No problems between the betta and white clouds either.
