When fully grown a minimum of 125 gallons is the norm but bigger is preferable .bear in mind these fish will reach 14 inches long and are extremely fast.I have 2 in a 125 gallon and they still whack themselves on the side of the tank on occasions.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

As was said, they are large fish, fast swimmers, and additionally they are schooling fish. 125 as a bare minimum, I'd go larger though.

They would need AT LEAST a 6 foot long tank for swimming room. I don't know the dimensions for a 125 off the top of my head, but no tank less than 6 feet long will be adequate...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

125 - 72" x 22" x 18"

But I'm with the rest - an 8' or 10' tank would be much better.

Even at the conservative estimate of 12" adult length, using a 6' tank is like putting (a good example because they're equally active) Zebra Danios in a tank that's 6" long! And considering they usually pass 14" and often make it to 18", it's an even smaller tank for them.

I've heard of people keeping babies in shoeboxes but that doesn't make it a recommended practice (erm, thank goodness! ).

they are jumpers to, thats how i lost my guy. He was huge! Three years old...We had to keep the tank covered at night or he'ld go batty when the lights were put out. Great fish if you have a big enough tank. It's hard on a fish to be moved so starting with a large tank is the way to go.

They are cool fish but too be honest get very annoying after a while, they are jumpy and often get scared and also scare the other fish on occasions. Don`t get me wrong, I do like them but just saying that they probably will annoy other fish eventually and may also try to jump out which can be a pain after looking after a fish for so long then it just jumps out and commits suicide (well not on purpose but thats is what it did do really)
