how do you think they differ from Tigers other than appearance? (i.e. temperament, size, activity, etc.)

yep, the certainly differ from tigers.
Black rubies are much more peaceful fish.
Personally, I like tigers better, but if you find tiger nevrous fin nippers, black rubies are your fish. Especially the males are much prettier than tigers; they didn't get there name for nothing!

The pictures dont really do them justice. I have a group of about 12 Black Ruby Barbs in a 55 that are just awesome. They are all really big now too. As soon as I can get a pic of them I will get it here or pm it to you. They are a cool fish, just as active and not as aggressive as reg. Tigers.

i just got 4 of these fish myself.. great looking fish i must say and have not bothered one fish in that tank
