What do you think is a good number of giant danios to keep in a 55 gallon with a jack dempsey and a convict? I wanted 6 or 7 but would like to know what you think.

if the jack dempsey is big enough, imagine the giant danios as being tasty chicken nuggets. mcdonalds sells them in quantities of six, so i would stick with that.

The giant danios and the jack dempsey are both about 3.5 inches, so I don't see them being a snack any time soon. I have four danios and wondered if i could add 2 or 3 more to make them feel a little more comfortable.

If you're sure that they won't be eaten, I'd add at least two more. Danios are schooling fish, I believe, and like to be kept in good-sized groups. I still question the wisdom of having danios with a jack dempsey and a convict, but if the cichlids are both small, it should be fine for a while.

Yes, Giant Danios are schooling fish Nick Very pretty too, they get some nice shimmering action going on as they glide around. There is a possibly they could be eaten though...giant danios grow to a couple inches long (max out around 3.5"/4" I believe) but they are often sold a lot smaller. Be careful...

Giant danios can reach a maximum length of six inches. Definitely big enough to house with dempseys. In fact, they are often recommended as dither fish for many of the more aggressive CA cichlids. Mine did fine with my convict pair.
