rainbow/rtbs

which would do better with:
12 tigers?
in a 29/30gl. tank?

(can the sharks go with guppies?)

thanks!

Neither, they both get too big.

I agree with John partly; if you only keep 12 tigers, you could add a shark, but notice that your tank is on the small side for such a fish.
Personally, I'd go for the RTBS, but both are good with tigers.

I think that your tank is too small for either fish. The rainbow shark might kill some of your tiger barbs as well, since they (the sharks) can be so aggressive.

As for your other question, I wouldn't keep either of the sharks with guppies. The guppies would probably become shark bait. (Pardon the bad joke)

Funny,

I don't know either of the sharks to be agressive towards "non-sharks". Especially rainbow sharks I know for their friendly nature.

I kept an RTBS with 7 tigers in a 15 gal. for a few years and no one ever got hurt; they actually played hide and seek with each other ...

Well, this site's profiles think otherwise.

You might be confusing rainbow sharks with bala sharks, as balas are very peaceful.
Red tails differ by personality, just like certain cichlids and bettas, but I wouldn't keep them with guppies, and probably not tiger barbs, either. I'm sure a RTS would be all right with tigers, as they are tough fish, but I wouldn't risk it.
