An RTS will have obviously black/grey fins and a red tail. A rainbow shark will have obviously red fins all the way around (dorsal, etc) along with a red tail. This should be a pretty quick identification to make... ![]() PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

In fact, it says it may tolerate other fish. Typically, after reviewing a profile, we followup by posting and finding out how many people have kept certain species together. In general, fast moving fish and slow movers, don't go well, tho there are exceptions. [hr width='40%'] But you didn't answer the question. Which one does it most closely resemble? He definitely will need a bigger tank, and maybe different tank mates. Last edited by Cory_Di at 18-Jan-2005 23:40 Last edited by Cory_Di at 18-Jan-2005 23:41 |

I feel like 6 in. is a conservative estimate of how big they get, though. I saw one in a pet store last week that was at least 7 inches. Gorgeous fish, but at that body length, with that bullet shaped body, you can tell it's a fish that likes to swim and needs room to be really happy. I don't know what the minimum tank size for one of those would be, but cheers for rescuing the poor guy anyway ![]() |

I've never heard of a rainbow shark eating any smaller tankmates and mine's lived with fish as small as neon tetras before without incident... As for the tank size, he needs at least 40 gallons and caves to make territories either way... Rainbow sharks have been known to eat smaller tankmates, and baby fish are the smallest of them all. Also, I don't know if thirty gallons is big enough for a rainbow shark. They are fairly active fish, and reach around six inches in length. In any case, I wouldn't put in that tank, if you want to keep your fry. |
