Hi,

I was interested in buying some rosy barbs. I just called a store and they told me 'yes we have rosy barbs' and I asked how many do they have. They replied 'oh wait.....

.....sorry I thought you said rosy tetras...

...oh we have heaps of baby rosy barbs here, we sell them as feeder fish'

Uh... has anyone ever heard of rosy barbs being used as feeder fish before?

Heard of it, never seen it though.

Chain petstores sell them for $3+ish around here, LFS's around $2. Heard of goldbarbs being sold as feeders too.

Guess because goldfish and guppies are so much easier...and cheeper

I would be guessing that they probably meant "Rosy Reds". The Rosy Reds are a type of minnow that is heavily used as a feeder fish. They are a pink color, that when they get large have a more redish color. The are a great addition to most ponds, as they are awesome mosquito eaters. Very prolific egg scatterers that will eat their own eggs. Usually as cheap as any feeder fish.

I don't think that Rosy Barbs are kept as feeder fish. I heared about Minnows, but not Barbs.
