I have a question i recently got a rtbs from petsmart. Its colors are light right now (i imagine it was stressed being in a tank full of sharks) Question is will the shark return to its normal color? Or does the color come with maturity?

colors come from acclimation to its new home. they are normally stressed out in a lfs tank setup, but normally brighten up within a few days after being introduced to a properly setup permanent tank.

And I think the colour very much depends on the mood of the fish also.
I've had my RTBS for about 2 month, and its colour changes through out the day.
But stressing conditions certainly will cause the colour to fade a little bit.
Give it a few weeks and it shall be beautiful again.

A really gray shark will remain gray, color at the store is a good indicator of the fish's permanent coloring. I've had a few in my time and the two I bought black stayed black (not at the same time or tank mind you) and the one I bought gray only darkened a little after I got it home.

an RTBS's color also intensifies as they grow older.
Youngsters are often much "greyer" than large, adult fish.

when i bought my rtbs from walmart, it was a pale grey colour with only a faint tint of red on its tail. i felt sorry for the little guy in that tiny little tank so i took it home. now it's jet black and it's tail is almost flourescent!!! imo the colour they are when you get them will affect the colour they will turn, but as long as you give them good care, they'll turn black

Their tail brightness can be slightly valuable as a thermometer of how they're feeling also. The brighter and stronger the color, the less stressed they generally are. It's by no means a sure system, but you'll probably take notice that their tail will brighten considerably as soon as they are fed...

i mostly feed wardley shrimp pellets. they're cheap and they sink, and all the fish seem to love them! as a treat i occasionally give them frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, ect and flakes

I feed flakes, frozen brine shrimp, and frozen bloodworms to my tank that has my RTS in it. The frozen are particularly for my BGK, but my RTS takes a few nibbles out of the cubes before the BGK scarfs them...
