I believe that tiger barbs are somewhat more susceptible to ich than many other fish. They are very hardy however, which helps them to fight it off most of the time.

Really? I can't say I agree.

I can't say I've never medicated a tiger barb tank for ich at work...but I think that there are many more fish that get it more quickly than them...I can't say we've lost as many groups to ich as other fish. *shrug* I think they're just as likely to get it as many other, to quote Gary..."trops."

*hides*

I can't believe I just quoted Gary.

I've never kept tiger barbs, but have a few other of the barb family. Seeing as barbs in general are some of the more hardy fish, tiger barbs themselves have a very wide temp tolerance I cant see how they'd get it more easily than a less hardy fish.

Well, I read it somewhere. Tiger barbs will often get ich if you don't know what you're doing, but that goes with all fish.

tiger barbs were my first fish when getting back into the hobby. i had a crummy heater that didnt allow one pinpoint control over the temp. the temp of my water fluctuated up and down and my tigers got a mild case of ick from the stress. they withstood treatment just fine, though, and were back to normal in no time.

guess that doesnt really address whether or not they're more succeptible to it, though.

hmm. well. at least it was a story involving tiger barbs. and ick.

In my tank (see profile for stock) occasionally after a water change or introducing new fish the tiger barbs will start to flick themselves on the rocks. If this happens i add some ick treatemnt for 2 days. This seems to clear it up. As such, i've never had tiger barbs with actual white spot, but they seem to be the first fish who indicate if there is ich in the water.

I am starting to have a problem with my Tiger Barbs. I have lost two of my Greens. My others havent had a problem but the Greens have. I was kind of sad because they werent the ugly green of most green tigers but they were almost black. Is any one else having this problem??
