This isn't really a question, more just an interesting observation while I was watching my Galaxy Rasboras a few minutes ago.

It was a little bit after I fed them, and the little fish were still excited and hunting around the tank for any remaining flakes. Then a male and a female faced each other, and started "kissing" sort of like most gouramis do. Except they would kiss, then back off, kiss, then back off again. They repeated these actions about five times.

After this they parted and continued to look for food with the rest of the shoal. I watched them carefully during this confrontation, and there was no food involved (i.e. one fish wasn't trying to take food from the other's mouth). My females aren't quite breeding size yet (at least that's what I think, they are still smaller than the breeding females I saw when I bought mine), so does this seem like some sort of territorial behavior?

Normally I only see things like this in more advanced fishes like Cichlids and Belontiids - I've never observed such ritualized "kissing" behavior in Cyprinids before, let alone a species whose brain is likely the size of a full stop.

I've noted inter-sexual flaring in my fish, but that seems more like light aggression more than anything, as would be seen in other small schoolers, though manifesting itself in a different manner.

Mine tonight were pairing up and spinning to the bottom of the tank. Another one set under the intake witch has a fry filter on it it like he's in a cave. I will watch for the kissing. How many does everyone have. and what are you feeding. I using crumble up flake and chopped up bloodworn and first bite (micro food)

I have seven (I wish I had gotten more), and I feed them crumbled flakes, baby brine shrimp, and ground mysis shrimp. Mine are still quite young, but I see the males flaring their fins and chasing each other, and trying to drive the females into the moss/near the gravel (but the females aren't ready to breed quite yet).

I quite a few, I told a friend about FP and he came on and got scared about the galaxy and he doesn't have that much time to put into the fish. So he wanted me to buy his 12 and I had 16 and yet there's more because my mom bought me some and I have more coming from my grandfather, bought them for me. I don't know why, I didn't ask them too. I just told them about these fish and what has happened to them. It's gotten crazy. Don't Anyone Worry I have plenty of room for them. I just feel bad because all I wanted was 16 to start breeding but it seems karma wants me to have these fish. i figure I'll just keep them in a Standard 55 planted for now with some otto's and micro cories. But have a custom 75 I will set up this weekend figure 8 weeks to cycle, and that will be there world. Safe and Happy

However I know I can't speed up the process but I plan to use the water from other tanks and to use some of the bio-filter rings from some of my canister filters to get this one up and running. At least I won't have I worry about waste and adding flakes for cycling.

I'm hoping to have babies so keep in touch and we will see.
