All gravel vacs work with sand, you just hover over them to hoover :%). Then after scheduled maintence you just sift thru the sand to prevent anerobic pockets ....or get MTS to do it for you.

That or using carefully placed powerheads use water movement to keep the substrate clean.

It's still not the same, I want to be able to stick it into the sand like you would gravel, and get debris in corners or anything *sigh*.

what kind of sand are you using? i have pool filter sand in my tanks and the gravel vac does just fine. maybe you need a more coarse sand so it won't be so easily vac'd.

Angel, For the most part that really isn't needed. Sand packs down so hard that nothing really gets past the top layer. Doing what babel suggested is about all that is needed.

I have the Tahitan Moon Sand, and it's a real pain in my butt.

I've never had anything except MTS and plant roots get under the sand....not sure how you're getting junk under the sand rather than staying on the surface.

you need to restrict the size of the hose you are using by partialy pinching it off or inserting something to it to restrict the flow

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

I can't use my Python as it's orginially intended anymore, because it ruined my Britta filter. So I'm just using part of the hose and the gravel vac on the end, then using gravity to dump it into a bucket on the floor.

It isn't very powerfull to suck up debris already, let alone to pinch the hose and restrict the flow even further.

I have kulies who like to go sand diving and bring random plant/food/poop particle with them. I do stir the sand up, and I do hover my little gravel vac and wave it around, but there is still a trumendous amount of debis typically.

If you don't have an additional powerhead on the tank and the fish you have in there don't mind added current you might try one of the [link=small ACs]http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=27205;category_id=3863;pcid1=2181;pcid2=" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] just to keep anything from settling and being pulled under by the loaches.

Well I have those loaches, a CAE, A Honeycomb Tita, and Danio's. The others won't care, it's the Tita and the Plants I worry about.
