Pimelodella tend to be too small to be bichir tankmates. Larger bichirs would most likely eat many of the smaller species of Pimelodella. Bichirs are great fish though, I'd go for them.

That said, I think some aquarists keep some of the larger pims with bichirs with success, such as the four-line pim or ornate pim. I wouldn't go with anything too huge, but some of the Pimelodella are only half the size of these pims and would get eaten rather easily.

On the other hand you could just go for the Pimelodella instead. Which direction you go may actually affect your stock a lot. If you go for Pimelodella your average fish is going to be smaller and can be less predatory than if you got bichirs. Pimelodella can go in modest community settings, even when the fish are rather small, while bichirs will eat any fish that are too small. Different kinds of tanks, you see.

I think four-line pims are appropriate as they get large enough not to be eaten by bichirs, they could even grow faster than the bichirs. I can't talk too much about cichlids since I'm not familiar with them.

hey about your cichlid question. It pretty much depends on what you want out of a fish. i think that the jaguar and dovii(wolf) would probably be a bad idea since those are REALLY aggressive. what i would do would be 2 get my catfish and bichirs and let them grow for a couple of months. you would wanna make sure the bichirs are big enough for the cichlid not to eat them. And they probably would grow slower than uoyr cichlid so make sure that they stay too big for the cichlid to eat. (same with the pictus)

here's a list of cichlids i might try:

Oscar
Jack Dempsey
Firemouth
Severum

more aggressive list:

green terror
red devil
midas
texas
convict

well i love jag cichlds i have had plenty before and doviis idk wat the smallest size tank is for a green or golden arowana but they will grow up in the 100 till like 18 inches then go into a 718 or something more than that with so larger cats. so they would only be in there for awhile.
