I know of people who've kept dwarf puffers and corycats

Not a good idea. Maybe they CAN be kept together, but I wouldn't risk it. Besides, a single 10 gal is too small for a full school (6+) of cories and a couple of dwarfs. Ottos, as everyone knows, are good DP tankmates, and I've heard of people keeping SAmerican puffers and irrubescos with them (not recommended for a ten gallon), as well as BBGs and ghost shrimp, the last of which could possibly turn into a snack.

OK, so cories are out. I don't know what BBGs are though- could you enlighten me please? I don't really want more Ottos, (I have a group of them in another tank) but what about loaches? I'd ideally like to get a bottom feeder as I LOVE bottom feeders. I have some ghost shrimp now that I'm keeping in my (empty) QT as possible food for my puffs once I get the tank completely ready to go.

Bumblebee gobies=BBGs. You could TRY dojos (I believe that's what they're called. Dojos aren't those big weather loaches, are they?) or khulis, but don't be suprised if you find them chased around by the dwarves. They'll need hiding spaces, too.

I've had luck with otos and bumblebees, not problems between them at all. Ghost shrimp become snacks for my puffers

Bumblebees are good looking fish and sem to have a lot of personlity at the LFS, but I've heard they are very picky food wise and only accept live. I can't get too many kinds of live food (Pretty much just snails and ghost shrimp)

They're about as finicky food-wise as your puffer'll be.

I know puffs will eat frozen bloodworms, what about BBGs? I know flake foods are out for these guys, but will frozen suffice for both species?

I'm setting up a new tank for puffers and was wondering what else I could put in with them without any trouble. I was thinking Corydoras (I know of people who've kept dwarf puffers and corycats) or Yoyo loaches if they'd get along. I'm thinking 2 or 3 puffers and 3-4 cories (panda or emerald if that helps) or 3 yoyo loaches. Thoughts?

I agree. Don't believe everything you read, posted on a forum. Go with the experienced folks. Anyone can post in a forum.

They are brackish. They will go well with Fig8's. Stick with the otos for DP's.

That was one of my concerns as well, but the other posters here said a BBG would be fine in FW.

Otos are great fish, I have some in my 20 gallon and they keep my tank algae free.

Cool. :88)

I've read conflicting post about BBG not being compatitable because they are brackish. So I'm going with those silly Otos.

Well, I had to scrap my original plans as I have no way of getting BBGs. (I was mistaken on the identity of the fish at the LFS- they weren't BBGs) I couldn't fin any within 40 miles of here and I don't buy fish from the internet. So I was at the pet shop, looking at the fish just killing time and I ended up talking to a guy who has had DPs for several years. He's always kept his with julii corydoras with no problems. That's what I have with my DP now, and everything's going fine.

I just wish I'd gotten the guy's phone number so I could ask him more questions.

CeltGirl: How's your tank going? I'm considering getting the same setup as yours.

Thanks. I've already got the tank ready and one puffer in there with some shrimp/snacks. I'll probably be adding another puffer and a BBG to the tank next week. I have to go out of town for all of these little guys, so it'll be a while before I get the full stock. I'm just glad my LFS finally started carrying Ghost Shrimp- Steve the puffer loves them almost as much as he loves snails. I let the snail population get really high in the 10 gallon so there'd be enough for him to eat, and in just a couple of days, my snails are almost gone, and he ate 2 of the original 3 shrimp that were in with him. I don't think they fed him very much at the pet store.

Thanks! So right now my plan is 3 dwarf puffers and 2 BBGs. Does that sound like a good stocking list for a ten gallon?

I like to think that my BBGs are happier in brackish, but there are many experienced aquarists (I think there are quite a few even on these boards that keep them in full fresh) that will vouche against that statement

Yeah, Dojos are out for my current tanks. Someday, when I get a 125 gal... Oh well, back on subject.

Will it hurt a BBG to be kept in full freshwater? Will it cause disease or a shortened lifespan or anything like that? If it won't harm the fish, I'll go for it and get one (or should I get two?) to go in my puff's tank with him.
