I set up my 10 gallon with the works- plants, filtration, decorations, ect.

My original plan for stocking was 6 neon tetras and a betta.

Well, out of the four bettas I own and had in mind for it, none of them worked.

Two of the males couldn't take the filtration, and the other couldn't stand the size. The female did fine, but wouldn't leave the other fish alone (seems she's a bit faster than the tetras) so I'm either gonna go find another female to place in, or I need some stocking ideas.

Right now there are only 3 neon tetras in (all the LFS had, getting 3 more Wed) but I would like another school of fish, if that is posible. My tank expirance is VERY limited, I prefer betta bowls and ponds ^_^*

Instead of a betta, why not buy a dwarf gourami? They're very colorful, peaceful, and won't be too much for your tank. A dwarf gourami should leave the tetras alone.

Filling out your school of tetras is a good idea. A dwarf gourami is a good idea; a pair of cherry barbs would work as well.

Is there any way I could add another school of fish? Or would that overstock the tank?

I wouldn't push it. Ten gallons are pretty small, so even another school of tetras would most likely be too much. I'd maybe add a tetra or two, and a dwarf gourami.

>.<

Well I got to the store...

Ended up with 3 Glowlights and 2 Tiger Barbs ^_^*

The go-lit tetras are schooling with the other 3 neon, so thats pretty cool and the barbs seem to school as well (I put a mirror in the tank, so they seem to hang out there and "school" with their reflections)

To be honest, you may not have made the right choice. Tiger barbs grow to three inches, and are nippy unless kept in large groups, so you will most likely have some problems there. What I would recommend is returning the barbs, and picking up two more glo-lites and another neon. Trust me, the tetras will be much happier in greater numbers.

Well, I think I'm going to keep them for now; I've got a 20 gal to set up next weekend, and a 55 I'm setting up around holloween

The glowlights and the neons have been schooling together in one group, the barbs hang out about the mirror, so that makes for a cool effect for the mean time
