I'm setting up a 10 gallon tank, and I want to put these fish in: 2 or 3 male(maybe one female)guppy, a betta and 2-4 ottos. Is this a good setup?

i would go with either all males or all females on the guppies... and im not really sure how bettas are with guppies.. maybe you've got a mild tempered guy in mind... other than that i dont see a prob.

Make sure the ottos go in last a few weeks or months after the other fish, youll need algae available , and they need really good water quality. The slightest ammonia or nitrite will wipe them out.

I agree with che, the guppies should be in either all male or all female, or a male:female ratio of at least 2 females per 1 male. This is to prevent the males from relentlessly harassing the females and stressing her out, possibly to death.

Also, bettas and guppies are hit and miss, but generally you want to avoid this combination. The bettas may see the guppies as a threat and vice versa, a confrontation that ends in either torn fins or death.

I think that Fallout's right. A Betta may see the fancy fins of a male guppy as a threat, but females may be pregnant when you get them.

1 Betta
2-4 Ottos
Maybe 5 Neons/Black Neons/ cardinals?????

I know Girlie had these fish in her tank, and i think they got on fine, but not too many neons!!!!

A pair of cherry barbs would be another option.

I do agree on waiting a bit with the otos. Unless you're absolutely set on them you could get a group of small cories (pygmaeus, habrosus).

Good luck

I wouldn't mix a Betta with male Guppy's in a 10 gal. tank.

Some one told me in another post that Cherrys could be nippy.

I don't know if this is the case, but cherries like a planted tank, with lots of hinding places.

Also, check out Cichlid? in the new tank forums. It'll bring you up to date on my tank plans since we moved.

I have three cherry barbs in a ten with a dwarf gourami. They get along fine.

Barbs are defiitely not my thing. Guppies, though, are a different story, and I've even seen lots of color in the females. Would a ram or 2 work for my tank? The pH is 7.4.
