So... you're looking for someone to suggest a centerpiece fish? I think that a green severum would be nice, but I don't know if they eat small fish or not. If they don't, then a severum would be pretty cool in there. Just my opinion.

Hahaha... Loaches are Asian.

You can substitute them for corys.

brtaylor2000, bala sharks are also Asian. Besides, they are schooling fish that get HUGE, so they'd take up a lot of bio-load. A 125 gallon is really the minimum for balas, and I don't think it is a good idea to keep any fish in their "minimum" requirements.

I re-read this thread a few times, and I can't see anywhere that this was planned to be an Asian tank...maybe I'm wrong?

Would you be interested in angels or larger gouramis, like pearl or moonlight?

I have a blue acara that lives with some guppies, never bothers them or the other fish but that may just be my individual fish.

Teresa, it isn't supposed to be Asian, or so I thought. The title says "125g american community", so I think it's going to be SA.

Most gouramis, especially those of the genus Trichogaster, are fine with tetras. They are tough fish, and any fish that bites them will get bitten back. My gouramis don't take any crap from my tetras...

Actually, the previous post was NOT pointless. In case it was not totally clear, I suggested he obtain a humpheaded eartheater cichlid (geophag.) as it is both placid and hesitant at eating smaller fish. :-/
