We will quite happly help you out with your list. You will need a heater for stocking tropical fish. Have you got your testing kits? ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph kits. You will need these when starting and maintaining your tank. Welcome to fish forum. |

Also, what are the dimensions of your tank? I think that tank is overstocked too. Two schools is hard to fit into a 15 gallon. Though angels don't fit in your 15 gallon, and if you want cichilds, you could go with a pair of dwarf cichilds. You could go with a livebearer tank, and then have a fish like a dwarf gourami that will eat the millions of fry you will have. |

I was in a chat last night and some experienced hobbyists told me that i could have a combo such as: 6 harlequins 6 corys and 1 dwarf gourami. Is this a good combo? And doesnt is seem a little overstocked? also, they told me about cycling fishless. Any more suggestions about the kinds of fish and about cycling? Thanks in advance |

Just to briefly go OT and discus rules of stocking. Take the 1" per gallon rule and throw it out the window with any UGF plates you might have lying around. They really just don't work. Take two 20 gallon tanks. One is a long, one is a tall. The long tank is obviously going to have much more surface area than the tall tank. If you were to give each tank the exact same stocking, my guess is that the tall tank would give you much more trouble. Why I hear you ask ...simple, the surface area is where all the exchange occures. This is the reason we add airstones when cycling the tank, or if we're medicating. The increased surface area provided by the airstone helps the fish out. The 1"/gallon doesn't take into account swimming room, surface area, or temperature of the water. It also doesn't take into account fish like goldfish, oscars, plecos, angelfish and many others that need more gallons per each inch, nor does it take into account swimming room for fish that love to streach their fins. While 1 adult inch may be a okay place to start, there is much, much more that needs to be taken into account.[/font] |

Before we give you lots of suggestions for stocking, I think it would be a good idea to go to your local fish store. Bring a pen and paper and write down names of fish that intrest you. Then, post the names, and we will all try to figure out the best stocking plan for you. [span class="edited"][Edited by solublefish 2004-07-20 09:07][/span] |
