xlinkinparkx Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 353 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Apr-2005 | Hey my friend just called and told my he wants to get rid of his 20G with rocks, driftwood, heater, top. So its a great deal, no holes or anything, all he is missing is a filter which I happen to have. Now for the stocking. I will either have a male or female betta in there. Anyone have any ideas of what I can sock it with. I was looking for a cheaper fish, I really just want 2-3 fish in there any Ideas? 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

But they are also brackish water fish so a betta would be out. But if you wanted the betta I would go with either of the following : 1 betta, 8 zebra danios, 4 hatchet fish, 4 cories, 2 ottos. OR 1 betta, 6 Harliquin rasboras, 6 neons, 4 cories, 2 ottos. But there are so many more options aswell. Why dont you round it down to what your interested in. |

xlinkinparkx Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 353 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Apr-2005 | Well I HAVE to put a Betta because I am planning on using my 5G filter and I will not use my 5G anymore so I have 2 5G one with a Mbetta and one with a Fbetta. I rather have 2-3 fish instead of lots of them. My PH will be 7.6 so keep that in mind. I'm still thinking about what I want, something more common. About fishless cycling, do I need cycle to creat bacteria for the ammonia? I have a small budget on this aquarium. 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

Then later on when you have more money to spend, get more fish and a bigger filter. If you go with 6 harlies, they won't add much to the bioload. Or, if you're set on only getting a few fish, you could put your female betta in there and then get a couple more. In that big of a tank, 3 females shouldn't bother each other too much. |

Also what about the cycling, do I just add the ammonia or do i have to add the Cycle also? Ill go check out my LFS to see what he has, 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

xlinkinparkx Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 353 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Apr-2005 | OMG what about I: Let me explain I have 2 5G each with a betta one with a female the other with a male. I also have a 10 with 7neons and a female betta and a guppy. What if I put the alone female in my 10 gallon, move my neons into my 20 with 1 or 2 Kribs? \ SO i wil end with 5G=1m Betta 10G=2f bettas 1m Guppy 20G=7neons and 1krib? LOL, Its pretty funnny, I used to try to push my stocking to the max and now I am trying to just keep a small amount of fish. 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

You could just do several female bettas. I think a trio would be nice. Otherwise I would do a school of something small like the neons with either the betta or the kribs not both. It sounds good but I don't have first hand experience with kribs. If fishless cycling it works best to add some bacteria to jump start the tank. A product like Cycle, biospira, or similar can work but isn't as good as just getting a handful of gravel or some filter material from a tank with fish in it. If you plan on adding any live plants that would also bring in the bacteria you need. |

xlinkinparkx Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 353 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Apr-2005 | LOL ok misunderstanding sorry. What I ment was to sell the betta and get 2 kribs alone in the 20G because when they breed I hear that they kill everything. It would be great for the parents to be alone and raise the young in a tank by themselfs. And about the cycling I'll be using a filter and plants form a cycledtank so thats good that you fot the explination. 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

FallingForNova Fingerling Posts: 16 Kudos: 5 Registered: 11-Apr-2006 | I see you're pretty set on the kribs, but I just had to add my two cents. If you wanted, you could have a betta, and some guppies or platies (colourful and easy to keep). I have all three, plus two bolivian rams in my 33 gallon, and everyone is very happy (except for the rams, who keep trying to attack each other...). The betta doesn't bug anyone (whatta good boy!), and even if he tried, they can all swim faster than he can. So yeah... 10 Gallon: Gold Danios 5 Gallon:Flik the Betta 33 Gallon: Platies, Guppies, Bolivian Rams, Honey Gourami's, and Spot the Spotted Climbing Perch |

xlinkinparkx Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 353 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Apr-2005 | OK i closed my choices down, I want something that can breed for 2 reasons, 1 its fun 2 to sell for store credit. I never really bred fish. So i liked the 5 corys but instead 3PLatys and I build from that. Anyother easy breeders that are not livebereas??? 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |
