I'm going to end up buying a 29g dual stand and putting a 20g long on the bottom, so I'm looking for suggestions for stock

Already have:

livebearers
dwarf puffers
Asian biotope (honey gouramis, harlequins)
angels

I don't really want tetras, danios...maybe some sort of cichlid I could try breeding? Are there African cichlids other than kribs I could keep in this sized tank?

Bring on the ideas

For africans you could go with Shell dwellers...

For other small cichlids you could go with...
Rams
Apistogramma sp.

Mabe some killis. Or a butterfly fish. Cichlids sounds good. If you wanted to breed rams then you could start out with like 8 and move them as pairs form

You could try breeding shell-dwellers or electric yellows, or go with small South American cichlids. Also, barbs, small plecos, and non-splendens bettas are fish that you haven't mentioned keeping. You might try out some of those.

How about the Lemon Yellow, N. leleupi? They're much better suited to a 20 than Yellow Labs, I think. Or, if you prefer patterns to colors, a Julidochromis species would look wonderful.

EDIT: Obviously, I also strongly recommend shelldwellers but everyone else has as well so those are two other options.

What is the pH and hardness of your water that you use for water changes? Since you have so many tanks, easy maitenance is important. Breeding is more likely to occur with soft, acid water for most South American Cichlids, and hard, alkaline water for most African Cichlids. Dwarf Cichlids would be a good choice for the 20, such as Apistogramma, Laetacara, Nannacara, Mikrogeophagus (Bolivians, btw, like slightly alkaline water). Shellies are a good choice for Africans.
