For that sized tank, if marines aren't in the equation, it would have to be either a) African Rift Lake Cichlids or b) Discus and Uaru, complimented with neon tetras.

LoL, will no one suggest stingrays or bichirs, Merodontotus tigrinus, and datnoids (plus other fish)? Oh wait, I just did!

2 300 watts should be fine. One 300 watt is doing quite the job on my 125 gallon already.

A big school of Bosemani rainbows would look great if you wanted some kind of schooling fish.

How about going with some big catfish, some big cichlids or such, and some nice top feeders?
Say Tiger Shovelnose (not sure how big those get), and some pictus cats, a couple large plecos, and a couple oscars, or midas cichlids, maybe a Giant Gourami?
There are so many options for big aggressive or attractive fish. Flowerhorn, Midas Cichlid, Red Devil, Jack Dempsey....
Catfish Catfish Catfish!!! In a tank like that you have many options for catfish. You could probably do a nice school of pictus or hi fin synos, or just about anything else.
Plecos - just about any big plec would be ok in that size tank.
Cichlids - go for smaller ones (4-9 inches) and you could have some nice schools of them in there.
Amazons - perhaps Discus, Angelfish, Piranha, etc.
Brackish - Mono Sebaes come to mind, as do scats!
Saltwater - A million possibilities.
Asian Theme - Larger Gouramis, well planted, some nice loaches, a busy schooling tank perhaps ?
Tinfoil Barbs and Bala sharks? What a great compliment to each other, you could easily fit a smaller school of each in a tank this size.
Anyway let us know what you choose!!!

A nicely decorated South American tank would look very nice. Or you could get some African Cichlids. If you get fish that are too big to be considered prey, a polypterus is a nice addition. Stay away from that tiger shovelnose, they get HUGE and wouldnt even be able to turn around in that tank.
