You mentioned females for this and that's good, I wouldn't do that setup with males. Females together-without the dividers-is iffy, it works for some and others have had bad experiences. I'm one of the latter Since bettas are available in so many stores I'd try to stay away from buying one that seems to have fin damage. It should have good color and at least respond to you moving the cup otherwise I wouldn't buy it. Most of my plant experience has been experimental Do some research and stick with low-light plants. I've had luck with anubias, dwarf sag, crypts (esp wendtii) and of course Java fern and Java moss. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

A 2.5G tank is rather hard to maintain when planted with anything other than easy plants. I would suggest you use your 20G to get to know plants a little better, learn to read the signs of their needs, and understand fertilizers. Later you can still change the plants of the 2.5G to something more challenging. Hope this helps, Ingo |
