First post

Alrighty so this monday I'm planning on heading to my LFS to buy some new fish, and alot of plants. Here is two of my shopping lists. Please comment on which one would be better for a begginer, and please feel free to post what changes you would do, to make it better community.

For this Angel Community, these were the fish I had picked out(cant get them all i know) and Was wondering if they are good for a begginer fish keeper. The plants would be at the let side of the tank, so the right side would have lots of room for the angel to swim.
Angel Fish
Small Plecostomus Catfish
Jurapari Cichlid
Zebra Danio
Blue Gourami
Black Tetra
spectrum fluorescent 6500k-6700 kelvin 60-90 watts
Rena FilStar External Canister Filter Filstar Xp-1
Foreground: Glossostigma, Hairgrass, Moss Balls, Bannana plant
Midground: Java Ferns, Apons, Crypts, Swords, Anubias
Background: Anacharis, Hygros, Ludwigs, Foxtails, Watersprite

This was another List for a community fish tank, that I made up. Would this be better for a Begginer Fishkeeper? also please feel free to make any suggestions you have on both lists.

6 Albino Cories = 12"

All sounds great , apart maybe from some size issues with angels , jurapari, and maybe some of the smaller fish. If youre gonna keep angels and jurapari's make sure they are not large specimens and that the tetras are not too small, they could be eaten. Large angels can surprise you by knocking back a small tetra every so often. An adult Jurapari could eat most of the tetra species under an inch in length. While usually a bottom feeder with preferences for scraps and wormy foods, a large specimen might find tiny fish irresistable.

A Jurapari might also pull up small plants while bottom feeding, potentially making it very difficult to get some of the plants started. One in a redecorating mood, could potentially move all of your gravel, and some of the small rocks too. In a breeding mood, they may strip back all of the plants in an area of the tank to make room for breeding. They also end up around a foot long, so would be needing around a 55 gallon or more for remotely humane care. Also excellent water quality will be needed, they are adaptable but there is an upper limit to this. They are really better suited to relaxed midsize cichlid communities in really quite large tanks. They may be slow growing, but their habits will still very much belong to those of a big fish.

The second list is more realistic to manage. It might help to add some ottocinclus or algae eating shrimp to keep thise plants all shiny and free of algae. The plecs wont be doing much of that although they may keep some of the glass and larger decorations clear.

hey thanks for the replies. I think I will go with the second list, and wait until I get my 55 gal before I get angels. Here is what I am thinking. Please let me know if it is too overstocked. Also Since Im not getting the Angel, Would It be better to have plants all over th eaquarium, or just have half like i was planning, and maybe a decor on the other side, allowing for alot of swimming room? also their is a few holes on the back of my tanks lid(where power supplies go)so would the shrimp climb out? anyways here is my list.

8 Neons = 12"
6 Albino Cories = 12"
6 Zebra Danios
4 otos
5-10 shrimp?
Small Plecostomus Catfish
Dwarf Gourami
