I have a 30g (36" tank. It will be a heavily planted tank. I plan on eventually having 6 cories, 2 german rams, and platies. My question is how many platies can I put in the tank. (Don't figure in platy fry because that will not be an issue

Thanks

I'd say maybe eight or so. They don't get very big, and they aren't quite as active as swordtails.

To be honest though, I don't like livebearers. Are you sure you want platies?

I'd go with 1-2 males and 4 females---any more than six, and your focus will be diverted to the plates instead of the rams.

I'd say 6 or 7 total...possibly even 8, although I tend to overstock. That would depend on your filtration, water changes, etc.

To some extent it depends on what you currently have in the way of males and females...just make sure your females outnumber the males at least 2 to 1.

I think it sounds like a nice tank, I personally like livebearers

]:| Hey sirbooks, what's your problem will livebearers?

Just jocking around. Everyone has there own likes and dislikes.

I personally like most livebearers, except for the uncontrolled breeding. I'd also say 6-8 Platies would be good for that tank.

i'd say if you are going to heavily plant it and provide lots of hiding place
you can get away with about 8~10 platies
3 males and the rest females
