well i printed off some of the FAQ from this site and gave to my boss, who doesnt beleive there is anything wrong with the tank..... but comes to me to fix it becuse the fish arent getting along, and thinks more fish would make it better.......

boss has agreed to almost start over- but these fish have to stay, cant get rid of them.....
1 lg pleco
2 blood parrots

all else can go back, so ive got to call and make arrangements with the lfs to come and get the rest of the fish.

There is hardly any aquascaping- the gravel is about 40/40 black and white, with some bits of other color mixed in.
there is no background, up against a white wall, and a few chuncks of granite. thats it. it really needs some plants, driftwood, a background, and so on......

ive got some work to do, ill check back in a bit....

Depending on where the pH is , I would go the cichlid route if you want color which is hard to come by for freshwater. I would do a huge school of electric yellows and some other Labs. Or you can even go mbuna's.

The stock you have listed just seems out of control. You have prey in w/ the predators. And also sounds like the males aren't liking each other too much either.

But if your boss wants color with fresh water, thats the route I would go dunno your situation completely tho or budget on the matter.

Good luck tho.

Arowanas pretty much ignore anything under them, and this includes feeders; they are usually surface feeders. However, I wouldn't put small catfish in with them just to test if I'm right. :%) Personally I wouldn't be putting cories with arowanas anyway, since there are other large fish that would be cool with them too. Some fish that are awesome with arowanas include datnoids, bichirs, stingrays, and many catfish species.

yep i agree with shinigami they are a solid fish that will blo clear across you livingroom! same with the tinfoils not that they get too big for that tank its that they are a solid strong fish! My lfs has some 8-9 inch tinfoils in a 10 gallon wey to small and noone buys them cause they dont have a tank that big! if i get a 75 i think you can put some in there that would be one of the first fish i would try to get out of misuring! well anyway i feed the fish when i am there cause i am friend of the worker! i feed them well i put in a pellets and one jump for and and i was soaked HAIR was wet in every thing! i think those fish could easily fly from one tank to anther if the whated i love those fish!

It's not just that they're big; for example, arowanas are about the same in length and most could live a considerably longer amount of time in a 400 gallon than a Pacu. The problem with Pacus is not only are they large (and heavy!), but it's that they need way more room than most fish to swim. I've seen a Pacu rush around in the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and it is one POWERFUL fish; when that thing jumps or swims fast, you get a tidal wave! If a Pacu gets spooked, you can say good bye to the tank if the glass is thin enough, as it will blow right through it by sheer force. If the tank glass is thick enough, than what may happen is the effect when the Pacu's face is worn away by constant rubbing against the sides. An arowana is way more flexible and swims slower than a Pacu, so wouldn't have such problems in this tank.

Jeez, I got a whole lot of flashes of cool things you could keep in there, most being pretty incompatible with parrot cichlids (which I don't like very much anyway)... You know, like sharks. Real ones.

"like he said! pacus get 2 big for a tank even of that size!"

ummm...no they dont

You know that feeling you get when some random kid worker at the LFS says something wrong? Yeah, I got the same feeling when I read this...

Ummm... Yes they do.

Pacus grow to at least three feet long, which is as wide as the tank itself. No fish should be kept in a tank that it is wider than and cannot easily turn around in.

Well...if their priority is color and activity, and since you have the space...look into cichlids.

ive been off work for 6 weeks , and just went back to work. while i was off they put in a 400 gal tank, and this is there curent stocking. they are wanting to add even more to this tank. they want me to make a list of fish that will work in this tank, but to me right now the mix they have in there is a nightmare. please giv your opinions on this.

4 juvie bala sharks
3 adult red tailed black sharks
1 rainbow shark
3 large common plecos
2 adult blood parrots
1 juvie oscar
6 various 2 spot gouramis all males
4 juvie tinfoil barbs
8 silver dollars of different sizes
2 pacus at 10- 12 in right now
10 serpea tetras adult
3 bleeding heart tetras adult
6 yoyo loaches adult
and 1 albino cat fish. juvie

as you can tell there have been tons of problems, the tanks only a month old, fish have died off left and right, and they restock with whatever seems to look good at the time. and now i get the job of fixing it. Where do i start??????

they want big fish, lots of actvity and color.

well IMO none of those fish are really very colorful...What's the PH of the tank? If it's in range I'd take everyone back and look @some cichlids. Many are just as bright and colorful as SW, and with a sand substrate you could fool most people .

I'm very much with Tetra Fan on the plecos, especially if they want color....look into zebra plecos (rather pricy though but quite striking) or gold nugget plecos the spots are just .......IMLE pacus aren't very active @all .

^_^

ummm...no they dont

6 balas
3 plecos
2 blood parrots
1 oscar
6 tin foil barbs
8 silver dollars
6 2 spot gourami of one color, 2m/ 4 female
6 yoyo loaches

I think that sounds good, but I would also say take the Plecos back. Get smaller plecos like BN or Gold nugget. If the tank has live plants then you won't want to do 8 Silver dollars. They will eat almost all of your plants quickly. The Oscar I think would be fine as long as there is room for him and the other large fish to make there territories. I think that would be a good stock list So that would put you at...

6 Bala Sharks
1 BN Pleco and/or 1 Gold Nugget Pleco
2 Blood parrots
1 Oscar
6 Tin foil Barbs
6 2-spot Gourami
6 yoyo loaches

If you have the Oscar in there than don't get anything under around 4-5 inches. I think that would be big enough to keep the oscar from eating them. So no cory's in that set-up.
