i think we posted at the same time babel....

the tinfoil barbs, and plecos are the only ones left from the original stock. i know the plecos get big, the ones in there now are 18- 24 inches each..... i hate to take them back to be crammed into a 50 or 100 gal tank at the lfs.

its a standard 400 gal 7 x 3 x 3

babel- the albino catfish isnt a cory, its the huge pond type catfish...

id really like to take everything back and start over, but that isnt an option. i can do some switching around, but cant start over......

they want big fish, lots of actvity and color.

Make a long post while working and see what happens

6 balas
3 plecos
2 blood parrots
1 oscar
6 tin foil barbs
8 silver dollars
6 2 spot gourami of one color, 2m/ 4 female
6 yoyo loaches

Lose the oscar, they're ugly and boring, common plecos get 24" and longer, IMO way too big still, if you want plecos go for some of the smaller variety. Bring back the corys, and still larger on the bala sharks. I'd also lose the blood parrots, and gourami.

^_^

Bala sharks and corys are both schooling. IMO while having a large tank means you can keep lots of different types of fish, it would also give you an oppertunity to stock properluy and actually get a more accurate portrayal of their behavior.

I would look @the ph of the tank, decide who's most appropriate, pick a few species for each portion of the tank (top middle and bottom) and build from there. Schools are often said to be 6 as a minimum, but I could just immagine a school of 20+corys swimming all over, 12 bala sharks, and well planted........400gallons isn't really all that large. IMO anything over 16" and schooling just uses too much of the space. I'd stay on the smaller and schooling side.

If the tanks only a month old and having many deaths I'm guessing that it was never properly set up. I'd suggest taking as many fish back, and starting over as possible. Plant heavily with some hardy live plants if possible to make it look "full" while you get it settled down and you stop losing fish.

clown loach - i said it was a night mare.....

this is as far as ive gotten

4 juvie bala sharks - fill outt o 6
3 adult red tailed black sharks - take back,
1 rainbow shark - ? any ideas?
3 large common plecos - stay
2 adult blood parrots - stay
1 juvie oscar - stay
6 various 2 spot gouramis all males - switch to 2m/4 fem
4 juvie tinfoil barbs - up to 6
8 silver dollars of different sizes - ?
2 pacus at 10- 12 in right now - take back
10 serpea tetras adult - ditto or oscar food
3 bleeding heart tetras adult - same as above
6 yoyo loaches adult - stay
and 1 albino cat fish. juvie - take back

which would put it at
6 balas
3 plecos
2 blood parrots
1 oscar
6 tin foil barbs
8 silver dollars
6 2 spot gourami of one color, 2m/ 4 female
6 yoyo loaches

this to me seems stocked, but i dont have experience with some of these fish, or a tank this big. the various sharks are fighting, the oscar is trying to eat the tetras, it wont be long before they do get eaten, the variuos male gouramis are all different colors, and fighting amonst themselves. i really dont even know howll theyll fit in here after the others are grown. but they want something with color and graceful as they put it the lfs recommended gouramis- if they stay im thinking of switching them all out to gold gouramis, colorful, and semiagressive. or 3 snake skins.but still unsure about it.

looking for more opinions please.....

No tell em to toss the pacus and get a couple of bichir and arawonas!!!!

depends on the size of the tank a standard 400g is a 7x3x3 and a pacu would not be able to turn around in that tank when fully grown ..... neither would a arowana (i dont think they would)

if u ask em that whole stock list is not very compatible .... ur gunna have all fish bein eaten and killed ... eventuall with that stock list ur gunan end up with only bout 6 big species of fish

6x2x2 - Firemouth and Oscar Tank
30+ royal pythons.

Back in the game after 4 years out ..
