Ummmmm....there are no options to chose from on your poll.

I'mm setting up a 55 as we speak and I'm thinking of angels, rams and tetras with a neat pleco for the bottom....a stereotypical SA set-up

When my 55 gallon was FW...

I just put whatever random fish. You've got lots of choices of fish that fit. I was going to brainstorm a couple different possible set-ups but then I realized I would be here forever. In any case, I've had the mix of random community fish and that works pretty well. Fish from certain continents can also work too and be effective set-ups. South American is always nice, but there are many other choices. African Riverine, African Rift Lake, Asian...

Since I already have a sort of South American tank (well, technically my 125 gallon has a Royal Plec in it and if I had money, I could put more SA fish in there...), For a 55 gallon I'd probably go Rift Lake. I've always wanted Cyprichromis and Paracyprichromis; if I'm not mistaken, these are fish that can do well in the confines of this size tank, though they'd probably do better in say... a 125 gallon. LoL, not enough big tanks... That's just me, though, 'cuz I've had ample experience with many types of community fish and would like to try something new.

BTW, for tetra-seekers, go for Rosy Tetras and you won't regret it. They rock. Seriously.

I'd go with 75 gallon, though. A lot better than a 55 gallon. A 90 gallon isn't much worth it, though, since it's a 75 gallon with added height, and we all know surface area is what really matters. After the 75 gallon the better tanks are at the 6' point, and then you know you're addicted to fishkeeping...

i have to agree with Megaton on the rosy tetras. rosies and black phantoms are both my favorite tetras, as both the males and females are pretty. the males of both species have the long, flowing fins, but the females make up for it in some way. although they dont have the incredible finnage, female rosies have attractive a white-tipped dorsal fin, where on the males, this fades away with age. as for the black phantoms, the females have a beautiful, serpae-like reddish hue.

When I was planning my 46 I wanted to do this:

3x Calico Veil Angels
2x German Blue Rams
10x Black Phantom Tetras
6x Panda Cories

In a 55 I would add an African Butterfly Fish

I have a 54 Gallon Bowfront and this is what I have. So far everyone is getting along just fine. No additions since Christmas. My LFS in Chicago closed down so I got some of the stock from their show tanks.

1 X Cardinal Tetra (5 died last August when I added Ottos that were sick from the LFS). Hard to find Cardinals in Chicago at the moment but plan to add a couple more for company when I can. After that no more additions of any kind.

1 X Golden Zebra loach (owns the best den in the tank. Its hyperactive at certain times of the day)

1 X small ancistrus (not a bristlenose but I dunno exactly what it is. It's mature and the LFS had it for over a year in their show tank. Its about 4 inches)

1 X Powder Blue Gourami (a little grumpy)

6 X harlequin rasbora

6 X albino Corys - 2 over a year old - 4 young ones

4 X Bloodfin Tetras (who spend a lot of time in the plants)

2 X turqoise rainbows

2 X crimson spot rainbows (all 4 rainbows hang out together and change colors a lot when they're horny. They are pretty much the bosses of the open water area of the tank)

3 X Ottos who spend a lot of time following the corys around

The tank is also fairly well planted with some anubius, amazon swords, java ferns, java moss (on the driftwood) and various grasses.

My choices for a 55 would first involve moving the current inmates of the Panda Fun Palaceā„¢ to their new, larger home. Then, I'd bump up the Panda and Cardinal numbers to 16 each, bring the Otocinclus count to 8, then start looking around for something else in the Characin line to go with the Cardinals - possibly 10 Lemons.

Then, I'd be on the lookout for some specimens of that 'super dwarf' Apistogramma that was recently described. Let's face it, an Apistogramma species that only grows to 25mm long is going to have a lot of space to call home in a 55!
