I have a 55 gallon with 5 Buffalo Head cichlids in it, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what else to put in there. I was thinking maybe some Kribs and Congo tetras.

I don't think 12-15 of any fish large enough to not be a cichlid meal would fit in that 55g. The synodontis is also a bad idea since even just one of those guys would be better off in a 75g tank.

I dont know anything about the cichlids you have but you would only want to put congos with quite peaceful non nippy fish. Generally african cichlids would be too agressive for congos so if you aren't sure how their temperament compares I would try to get an opinion from someone that knows these particular cichlids before adding peaceful long finned fish like congos. In a 55g a school of 6 or 7 congos or similar sized tetras is a good number. The kribs might be a better choice though and stand up to the other cichlids better.
