I'm building a 55g planted tank and was looking at the following fish....

2 Angelfish
6 X-Ray Tetras
4 Guppies
4 Dwarf Cichlids (don't know which yet)
4 Emerald Cories
5 Zebra Danios

Is this overstocked for a planted tank? And are any of these fish going to have serious compatibility problems?

1 inch of fish to gallon is the general rule..

but if you wanna clean it often it doesnt really matter... i have 100 inches of fish in a 90 gallon
..
as far as compatability im not sure..

I really wouldn't get the guppies, they seem a bit bothered by the anxious feeding habits of the angels. Also, 6 tets isn't nearly enough for a 50 gallon. Maybe take out the danios and replace them with x rays instead. Otherwise, I'd get more corys (are they bronze cories or the Brochis sp. catfish?). You're fine as far as stocking goes, btw.

They're brochis splendens. The main reason I say I'll get four of those and six X-rays is because they're adoptees from a different tank of mine - I feel bad about selling them, and I may not be able to fill out their schools at all. A 55 is roomy enough where I'm not really sure what to put in it.

One reason I wanted the Danios is because the tank is already rather bottom-heavy. The cories and the four unspecified dwarf cichlids are both bottom-dwellers and the tetras have no qualms about hanging out in their space. Maybe what I'll do instead is leave the cories where they are and let the dwarfs have their bottom space. But the cories don't seem happy in their current tank - they often get spooked and hide because of all the enormous fish that keep passing near the tank.
