how does this sound for a 55g community
8 redeyes tetras
8 flame(von rios)
8 black neons
4 bolivian rams
10 ghost shrimp
1 ?????????

thats it i know i should have 2 big schools of tetras but i want this to be different. the ? is the centerpeice fish that i cant figure out what to have i want it to be 4in to 6in. would do angels but they would eat the neons and be nipped by the redeyes. would a gourami of some sort be okay with the reds with their long pelvic fins

I think a gold gourami would be nice as a centerpiece.

Also personally i would only go a pair of rams instead of 4 and up the schools instead. Everything else looks good to me.

Angelfish wouldn't necessarily eat the black neons (I personally doubt that they would), but there is always a chance. Having never kept red-eyes, I don't know if they would pester an angelfish or not. Otherwise, I would wholeheartedly recommend an angel.

ive thought about that just for the aggression factor that cichlids are so unpredictable and i could get a couple mean rams. i an angel but its hard to find tetras to go with them that wont get ate or pester it

[font color="#000080"]Yeah I like the Angel idea.
I'm sure the angel won't bother the tetras, but then again i'm only guessing and it will also depend of the personalitie of the Angel.
If you do decide on a Angel add it to the tank after all the tetras are in, and add it as a juvenile.
Also having a angel in the tank will keep all the tetras in line.

I would vote for either a pearl gourami or an angel.

Personally I'd also go with only two schools and add some sort of bottom feeder.

I'd go with:
8 ..... tetras
8 ..... tetras
2 Bolivian Rams
1 Lace gourami
8 ..... small corys or 2 bristle nose
Maybe some shrimps if you still want them.
Hope this helps!

im kinda curious why everyone wants to limit the rams? bolivians are social with thier own kind and i would think 4 would be fine, blues might be a little more about bickering but i doubt anything would become of it in a 55g tank. should be more then enough room for 2 pairs in that size tank. if thiere are issues which i doubt, just drop some drift wood betwen the 2 territories so it breaks line of sight. fish dont attack things they cant see.

I think you will find the red eye tetras will become your center piece in the end. They are shiny and fast all around swimmers. They will draw your attention to them everytime you look into the tank. I love these fish. Next to the Congo tetras, I think they are my second fav tetra.
