I think you could get away with four-five cories and one, maybe two UDCs. Adding driftwood pieces that rise high above the substrate in an arching fashion gets the cats off the substrate, leaving more room for your cories. As for the other fish, I think the aggression between blues is a bit overexaggerated, but the tank is too small for more than one, anyways. I'd go with single pearl and 6 cardys.

Cup-
I saw at my LFS a few months back, a fish I wanted to buy so badly, a Gold Gourami that by tape measure (me and the guy from the store measured the big guy), pulled in at 7.2 inches.
I guess most only reach 5 inches, but Ive only ever seen adult ones over 6.
I do agree, more than one gourami is too much, unless its a single pair (m/f) of Pearls.
Oh, Labrakitty,
heres a pic of my male Pearl full grown for you.

Heres the female

More like gold/opaline-5.5
USDC-3.5

Nonetheless, you SHOULDN'T KEEP MORE THAN ONE GOURAMI IN THERE--THEY JUST GET TOO LARGE. All in caps to emphasize a point. Furthermore, though pictus cats are fine as solitary fish, they are too rowdy for your USDC, and should be passed up.

"1 pearl
1 gold
1 opaline
1 pictus
1 upside down
2 sword tails"

[font color="#800080"] Nope, definetly not.
Thats way too many BIG fish for a 25g tank. You seem to think your tank is quite large, and its really NOT. These fish would all be happier in a larger tank.
I think you should start looking at smaller fish, please. These fish will be cramped and unhappy to say the least.
1 Pearl- 4.7 inches
1 Gold - 6.5 inches (to be safe)
1 Opaline- 6.5 inches
1 Pictus- 4.5 inches
1 USD Cat- 4.0 inches
2 Swords- 8.0 inches (4 inches each)
---------------------------------
Total= 35 adult fish inches. This is not terribly overstocked, however: The bioload alone produced by the gouramis would drive that overstocking up even more.
Perhaps you could look at the Dwarf Gouramis- Dwarfs, Honeys, Thick Lips, Coral Green, Blue Dwarf, Flame Dwarf.
Stick with the USD's- they are peaceful and easy to keep, and would prefer to be in a group of 2-3.
Perhaps you can buy a larger tank if you dont already have the 25.
If you want ideas for fish smaller than the ones youve picked, just ask, there are umpteen small fish that will fit.

Nope, that won't work either. Pictus catfish are shoaling (meaning they need to hang out with their own kind), and they reach four inches. Also, swordtails are very active swimmers, and get to four or five inches, as well. Still though, at least one gourami has got to go.

I am setting up a 95 litre tank. I am probobly getting an AquaOne hang on back filter, and maturing in my other tank, then adding it in the big tank.
My stocking ideas are:
2 gold gouramis
2 lace(pearl) gouramis
2 upside down catfish(I will be getting this earlier and then transfering it into the big tank when it is up and running(cycled))
4 or 5 leopard danios
3 or 4 peppered corys
1 or 2 swordtails(maybe)
What do you think of that? The tank is 61cm by 41 cm by 39cm with the corners chopped of.(KInd of octagonal)
My other idea is:
2 gold gouramis
2 lace gouramis
2 upside down catfish
6 harlequin rasboras
2 or 3 peppered corys
What about that?
Is eather of these over stocked?
Please write back soon if you have any ideas or comments!
all help appreciated!!!!

1 lace gourami-female
1 gold gourami-female
1 opaline gourami-female
3 upside down catfish-are they ok in groups of 3?
6 tetras(cardinals or other thick bodied ones)-are htey good in groups of 6?

I worry about your choice of gouramis, the opaline and gold gourami are both the same species, and unless you luck out and get a male and a female (very hard to tell with these fish) its quite likely they will end up killing each other. Neither is really a good fish for a 25g tank anyway, they get like 6-7 inches. Much too large. I would say drop the Gold and Opaline altogether, go for a pair of pearls (very easy to tell male from female- I have pics if you need em)
So you could do this:
2 Pearls
3 Upside Down Cats
6 Harlequin Rasboras
6 Cardinal Tetras
OR
2 Pearls
3 Upside Down Cats
8 Cardinal Tetras
OR
2 Pearls
3 USD Cats
8 Danios
OR
2 pearls
3 USD Cats
8 of any other small schooling fish.
If you insist on a Gold or Opaline Gourami, you might be able to go with
1 Gourami (gold or opaline)
3 USD Cats
6 Cardinals.
I hope this helps some, I would reconsider the big gouramis though, they really need more room to swim that a 25g offers...I would say to really show their true beauty a 55 would be best for them.

Cories are happiest in groups of six or more. They need each others's company to feel safe. The problem with keeping them and the upsidedown cats is that the bottom will be overcrowded. Peppered cories reach about 7 cm, and the other catfish get to 10 cm. If you dropped the cories, you'd be able to fit three of the upside down cats. Otherwise, there will be space problems.

Would you be able to drop one of each gourami? Or, both of the lace gouramis? If you don't cut the numbers down a little more, you might have competition on the surface. Gold gouramis are a color morph of the blue gourami, which has been known to be somewhat aggressive (depending on the personality of the fish) and territorial, especially towards other gouramis.

I am definitely not cutting the upside down catfish, and I love the gold gouramis, I could make it 1 gold gourami then.
How many corys do you need to have for them to be happy?

I'm thinking that both setups are overstocked, with the gouramis being the problem. In both stocking lists, I'd cut the gold gouramis, and round out the danio and cory schools/shoals. Also, I'd drop the upside down catfish, and focus more on the cories. I do like the first stocking list a little more, sans the gold gouramis and usd cats. So, my proposed list is as follows:

2 lace gouramis (an excellent fish)
6 leopard danios (nice, active schooling fish)
6 peppered cories (these are some of the larger cories, and will fill up the bottom nicely)

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."
