Its her birthday on friday, and I was considering getting her an ADF to go with her betta. BUT - what temps can ADF's handle? I know lots of people keep them in unheated tanks, but can anyone tell me what temps are too low? My Sister in law keeps her house quite cool, even in the winter, around 72. There is no room in the tank for a heater, as there is actually a large internal filter in it. Also, I have heard and read that the disease Red Leg, in ADFs is often related to low temps causing pooling of the blood in the muscle tissues of the extremities. But this would be colder than 72 or no? Thoughts? Thanks in advance! Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

The kind of circulatory issues youre talking about are unlikely to happen at more than 60f, but the immune system will drop if they are kept much cooler than 75f, and that can eventually lead to red-leg infections among many other complaints.Red leg is a bacterial infection, its sounds like there is some confused diagnosis there. Necrosis from bad circulation is just that, - equivalent to gangrene in humans. Its necrotic rot, but red leg is a virulent and highly contagious disease, and while it does cause tissue death and rot, no amount of temperature hikes can cure it,or prevent it. It requires antibiotic therapy. |
