I was wondering how many fish I could put in a 5g tank? It's a hexagon that is taller than it is wide. What sort of fish would do best in this sort of environment?

Keeping in mind that small gallonage tanks foul real easy, four of five Guppies or any small tropical would do...

Do some study first about water quality, temps and filtration to start you on the way to healthy fish.

A single betta would probably be your best choice here, as space is limited in that five gallon. You can't fit a school of any fish, and many non-schooling/shoaling fish get much too large. I'd go with a betta, they've got great personalities, and are beautiful fish.

Killifish! A pair would be ok in the tank. However, since it is so small, you just gotta make sure you keep up on the water changes.

You could probly put a african dwarf frog in thier or a couple. dont think you could do that with a male beta. but with a female or a male guppy.

Good luck 8-)

keep the tank aside and place your pocket change in it, and when it's full, use the cash to buy a bigger tank

Seriously, i second the killifish idea, bettas are so played out nowadays.. just finding the right killifish in your LFS is going to be a challenge.

killies are a good one, a trio of guppies would just fit as well (2F1M or 3-4M)

several african dwarf frogs, or a few crabs, or maybe some ghost shrimp. the change holder is a good idea, or use it as a fry tank for livebearers.
