I'm going to pick up a new ph test kit tomorrow...now I just need to figure out how to raise the ph slowly for my other tanks. I think they dropped when I switched water sources. Unfortanately I was unaware because my test kit was still reading the proper PH.I never realized that PH test kits could become inaccurate, especially the liquid kind. I'm almost sure now that I had a nigroviridis, despite what that store told me. Anyway, I was looking over the profiles in this site and noticed that it states that nigroviridis is a FW puffer. Is there some way to have that changed? Yeah, I realize now that fluviatilis is the Ceylon Puffer, thanx for the info though! ![]() |
pufferpunk![]() Big Fish Posts: 462 Kudos: 395 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2003 ![]() | Were you doing any water changes on that tank? I do 50% weekly on all my tanks. There is only 1 GSP, the T nigroviridis. The T fluviatilis is the Ceylon puffer. It looks like s cross between a F8 (on it's back) & a GSP (spots on it's sides & belly). Both fish are high-end BW puffers that prefer SW as adults. |

I took a sample of my water into my LFS and discovered that my PH test kit was lying to me (probably due to it's age). My PH was almost 6.0. |

I'm beginning to think that Bloat was actually a nigroviridis. When I bought him I was told he was fluviatilis. Will keeping a nigroviridis in brackish water cause premature death? |
pufferpunk![]() Big Fish Posts: 462 Kudos: 395 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Feb-2003 ![]() | I really had no idea either--but whey I saw a yellow rock where a soft pink liver was supposed to be, I figured something wasn't right. You could always have come over to my puffer forum for a diagnosis! ![]() |

He was such a wonderful puffer. He was my first brackish water fish. He went without warning so I'm not sure why he died. If it was illness I wish I could have known and done something about it. I will miss him. ![]() |

If you're talking to me, no I never fed him snails. There were plenty of snails in the tank but he showed no interest. I will admit that I was not as concerned as I should have been about the lack of appetite. I thought he might have been snacking on some of the snails when I wasn't watching. I did, however, feed him live crabs, live crayfish, nightcrawlers and thawed out shell-on shrimp. He just gradually started losing interest in the shrimp. He would take bites at it but not get much off. The last meal he had was half of a nightcrawler. He got to the point where he wouldn't touch anything with a shell that I tried to feed him. It was almost like he couldn't bite through the shell . Jason |

I came home from work and found my red congo puffer dead . He had been gradually eating less and less and finally stopped. I have no idea what was wrong but my 2 arrowheads are still doing great. I've never had a problem with them. I hope to try again with congos some day but it won't be any time soon. ![]() Jason |

He may have took in an air buble. If this was the case, next time hold your puffer in a net, and and rub the bump with your finger and help him get it out. I saved mine that way. Good luck in the future, Brac ![]() |
