I have had my tank up and running now for 6 weeks and I would like to know when it will start producing Algae?

The tank is a Mirabello 30 litre and it has the following:

8 Halaquins (if this is spelt correctly)

4 Neons

1 Betta

1 Baby Guppy (born only 2 weeks ago)

Can you advise because when I do start producing Algae I want to buy an Otto!

How long are your lights on?

is it in direct sunlight?

If it isnt, your lights need to be on at least 14 hours a day.

Actinic bulbs help ALOT for algae also

My lights are on between 6-10 hours per day.

Does that help?

My guess is its probably already producing algae just because it may not be visible to the human eye doesn't mean its not there.

That's quite a small tank for all those fish...They'd probably be better in a 15 gallon or more (your tank is about 8 gallons). The neons really need more friends as they are schoolers, and otos don't like to be alone either, so you'd have to get a couple more of them. I'd think about moving them all to a larger tank (though the betta would love the 8 gallon all to himself!)
