Got this fish off my LFS which they say is an albino algae eater. ... i'm having second thoughts right now since it doesn't have the 2 barbels everyone seems to be using to identify SAE's ... can anyone confirm this?

It's a golden algae eater. Visit http://www.centralpets.com/pages/critterpages/fish/freshwater_fish/FWF4475.shtml for more information.

Thats the albino or golden versian of the chinese algae eater. IME they get large and will suck the slime coat off of fish and stop eating algae after about a month...IME anyway .

If you have a large tank (55 gallons+) you might do okay...otherwise you might want to consider exchanging it.

You can always have a peek at the FP profile too:

(the Gold Algae Eater is just a color morph of the Chinese Algae Eater).

For future reference:

http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/Algae-Eaters/

is a great guide for identifying similar types of fish.
