Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | Tiger barbs are fin nippers and should not be added to slow moving fish like gouramies. They need to be kept in larger groups than four. Send them back to the LFS. Cobalt blue gourami? Are you talking about a blue gourami? These fish need to be kept in a much larger tank than what you have as they get up to 4 1/2 inches and need a lot of space. If it is a dwarf variety, the 15 gallon should be fine, but if they are both males - you will need to return one. You are definitely overstocked. Do not add cories to this tank since cories need to be kept in groups of at least six and your tank is too small. You can do: One dwarf gourami 5 small tetras that do not excede two inches. (neons, cardinals, glowlights, pristellas) Stick to one species - not one of each. One Otto (tiny tank cleaner cat fish) |

Both feel more comfortable with larger numbers (i.e. 8) so they would not like only having 5. Also, they are very peaceful fish, unlike tiger barbs. They wouldn't have a chance at dinner time because the barbs are very greedy. My neons and glowlights are slow to come to the top for food, so I could only imagine that it would be hard for them to get enough food in a tank with tiger barbs. Please just leave the tank like it is...as I mentioned in one of your other 5 posts. (sorry to exaggerate). If you have dwarf gouramis, return one because most likely they are both males. Keep the tiger barbs and one gourami and leave it at that. Don't add anymore fish. Tiger barbs should be paired with fish similar to them...like Serpae Tetras, Buenos Aires tetras, Danios...fish that will compete with them. The problem is, you have no room for these fish. If you had a bigger tank you could add more fish...but not to your 15g. |

dreamseeker12 Hobbyist Posts: 66 Kudos: 34 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Feb-2006 | This forum is for people who seriously care about trying to maintain a healthy eco system and you were overstocked with the four tiger barbs from the beginning, so why did you add two five inch fish in there? And if they are both males they will fight if they haven't already. All I can say is that I pity your fish, and can only hope that after these ones die, you won't subject any more fish to those conditions. Fish are like potato chips. . .you can't have just one |
